From 22 to 26 February 2017 Yambol will again be the scene of the most colourful and deafening kukeri gathering - XVIII International Festival masquerade "Kukerlandia.
The masquerade festival Kukerlandia represents a synthesis of centuries old traditions, customs, sounds, shades of light accompanied by the pounding of bells attached to their belts, perform rituals to chase away phantoms and evil spirits before the Spring.
More than 74 groups will participate in this year's festival, including 10 children and 9 foreign compositions.
The culmination of the "Kukerlandia" is again two-day parade of masked (February 25 to 26 Saturday-Sunday). Masquerade traditions of the Asian continent present: Appeal of the Korean Embassy in Bulgaria and the Institute "Confucius" at Veliko Turnovo University. The diversity of traditions in Europe will show guests from Poland, Russia, Moldova, Greece, Macedonia and of course all Bulgarian groups. They are from all over the country – Blagoevgrad, Varna, Bourgas, Montana, Topolovgrad, Ruse and more.
There will be 64 groups who will parade at the weekend. 15 of them for the first time set foot in the land of mummers. Tradition of mummery in Yambol region represent 16 composition. Thousands of bells and bells will resound City Park in Yambol. The parade of masked will be more flamboyant and more deafening than ever.
Organizers of the "Kukerlandia" are the municipality of Yambol and municipality "Tundja". Eighteenth edition of the festival is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and with the support of the Bulgarian National Television.
